Jalón / Xaló

Jalon is actually the capital of the Pop's Valley, and beside it we find the river Gorgos (which is called also Jalon in this valley).
It has a special attractive not easy to find in the other areas. With the exception of the plain where the town is, the lands around Jalon are different mountains, within which we should mention the Sierra de Bernia.
From this mountain the most incredible sites can be seen, footpathing can be done towards Penyo de la Mica, la Sierra del Forner and the Castellet (little castle).

Jalon is a merry town with its handicraft shops, wine cellars, restaurants and places that give the tourist lots of possibilities. To visit this town is to know its local gastronomy, with their sweets and pastry done with almonds within we should mention the pastissets, mantecaos, carquinyols, mostachos and their famous bollos (pastry done with green peas). This town is well known because of its sausages, done with the antic receipts; you can find the morcilla, bufas, longanizas, and chorizos. The wine of Jalon is well known in all the country, the most famous ones are the red wine and the sweet Mistela or Moscatel wine. For the people who like the local fiestas, these are dedicated to several saints all year round.

Xaló (Valencian name) or Jalón (Spanish name) is situated in the region of the Marina Alta, Alicante province. The population is over 2000 people.

The sun shines in Xaló more than 300 days a year, and rarely does the temperature drop below 10ºC. in the winter. The summer is mild like in the Mediterranean region with temperatures arround 25º-30ºC.

The Rastro (flea market), it takes place every Saturday morning, where you will find from the most searched antiquity, for to the most unusual object.

   

FIESTAS

Route of Bèrnia, where you could visit the "Fort of Bèrnia," remains of a fortification of times of King Felipe II, or the "Forat" where you could cross the mountain.

   

In April, on the last Saturday or the month, it takes place the "Romer," traditional pilgrimage where the typical food is "bollos" (buns).
